Where To Go If You Want To Try Shark Diving

September 3rd, 2010 | admin | Scuba Gear

Shark Diving has become a hugely popular experience amongst thrill-seekers, divers and holiday goers alike in recent years and there has never been such a huge variety of destinations to try it. If you’re considering going diving with sharks, here are the most popular destinations:

South Africa is generally considered to be the best and most popular shark diving location in the world, particularly given the amount of places offering cage diving eith Great Whites. There are numerous diving locations and highly reputable diving instructors in the country, making it an excellent choice for diving holidays. Although the best single location in South Africa is debatable, I would recommend Aliwal Shoal.

Australia would certainly be one of the best destinations, not only for shark diving but for scuba diving holidays in general. Australia has the second highest numbers of Great White sharks in the world, with South Africa being the only country to exceed their numbers. If you are considering a holiday in Australia to dive with shark you should make your way to the Southern coast, as Great Whites prefer the colder waters.

It might surprise you, but you can also go shark diving in the UK, although the sharks will be captive rather than in their natural environment. The Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire, UK, has captive Sand Tiger sharks which you’re able to dive with. As well as offering you the opportunity to swim with sharks, but is also home to Europe’s largest collection of shark species for you to enjoy looking at.

Another excellent destination for shark diving is the Caribbean, which has a hugely varied range of shark species. Caribbean diving will not only allow you to cage dive with bigger species, but will offer you the opportunity to free dive with certain species, like the Tigeth Shark for example.
